GT-R, with the M5 as my second choice.

C63 AMG. I'm not paying for the replacement tires!

Cool, but could you handle the GT-R for 350 miles without getting a speeding ticket?

M5.

AMG, GT-R, and M5 in that order

That is the one I would pick. More comfortable than a GT-R, but still a blast.

Telsa or GTR. the Telsa is fast and innovative so it would be cool. The GTR is fast and crazy, i guess that would be pretty damn cool too

Considering that I haven't driven any of these, or anything with more than 300 HP in my life, I'd take the GTR and deal with the crummy ride. It would be worth it, just for the experience.

Kinja'd!!! Flat Six > OPPOsaurus WRX

Tesla for a day would be cool, but we are driving 350 miles, so we would have to go out of our way for a supercharger.

You'll want to get the S550. Nice ride, comfortable in traffic (which you WILL experience if you're going to downtown Houston), and you'll get a ticket from either a local yokel or DPS with most of the other cars.

Also, MODEL S?! I can almost guarantee that you'll run out of juice during that trip.

out of all of them, i wouldnt NOT do the S550, the tesla or the GTR

merc: ehh. its just an older S-class. everything else has the same goodies, but newer and faster
tesla: electric power for a road trip...no thanks. thatm, and the torque isnt that great once you get moving at highway speeds
gt-r: just plain uncomfy.

It might be more fun to try the GT-R out on a track where you can really open it up. There are few companies that do track experiences with GT-R's.

id go with the c63, only because its likely the most ridiculous up there from a hooning perspective.

the rest are all probably quite tame, except the gt-r which for some reason never really did it for me.

so unless you two play professional basketball, i'd go with the amg.

GT-R, not even a question. A couple years ago it was the third quickest street car to 60 in the world, ever! (That is, if I remember correctly.)

But 99.9% of my driving is on the road, not on a track. I want to feel the car on the road in my own comfort zone, not on a track paying for laps.

Tesla is great for accelerating between lights, but probably not so much for passing people at 100 mph on some of our faster toll roads. Also we would have to stop and charge.

I have never seen any manual transmission car for rent in the US. Only the Bimmers offer a manual as option, and I doubt Hertz would spec that.

No, not through Hertz - those are the only options right now. I think they rotate though - I've seen a Stringray offered in the past. I own a 911 anyway so probably wouldn't want to rent one :)

Kinja'd!!! Tim (Fractal Footwork) > Flat Six

Kinja'd!!!1

I really can't reason why the GT-R is so expensive. I mean $600 a day where the M5 is 350 and the C63 AMG is only 250!

I'd go M5 if I were paying. But GT-R if company was paying.

Kinja'd!!! CPT Speedbump > Flat Six
01/18/2015 at 22:28

Kinja'd!!!1

If they do have one in manual, I'd go with that, otherwise, GTR, lol. I get bored easy, so if I'm driving a auto, it better be fast..or have a insane launch control system, or both. I'm not sure if they'd carry one, but..lets be fair, they are offering a GTR, so a manual wouldn't be to far fetched.

Kinja'd!!! thedevilinside > Flat Six
01/18/2015 at 22:30

Kinja'd!!!1

Oh, I know they rented them at one point, almost positive they still do from some locations. But if you own a 911, that would be a wasted opportunity. I stick with my M5 opinion, but the C63 would be a blast too. Not that any of them wouldn't be awesome.

Kinja'd!!! Flat Six > Tim (Fractal Footwork)
01/18/2015 at 22:30

Must be the insurance I guess! Realistically speaking $600 is too expensive and not really an option (that doesn't even include mileage charges), but I thought it would be more fun to ignore price for this question.

Hell no on the GTR. That is a terrible place to spend time unless it's on a track. I would go for the Jag or the Tesla. That's a picture of the previous S, and I've experienced everything else. The C63 or M5 would be a blast though.

You know even if they did rent a Porsche and I didn't own one, not sure if I would pick that. 350 miles would be a pretty harsh trip especially for the passenger. Besides that the cupholders totally suck. Two dudes in a Boxster might be a little ... uncomfortable.

You can click through the link to see exact prices, but they start around 200 something after discounts. The GT-R is more like 600. There are extra identification requirements (e.g. two credit cards, two ID cards).

Since this is a business trip with your boss, presumably to visit a client or do something official, Id try to take a car that is "business like" and not too flashy. So saddly out go the GTR (too sporty looking) and the Jaaag (to different in the US). Also, the 650 and S550 might look too fancy / oppulent, so the Tesla, M5 and AMG C63 seem to be the best bet. With them you can kinda pass as someone arrivng in a nice car, but not as totally exuberant (even tought you are!!). Kuddos to you, havce fun.

Good advice, but this time its just a vendor training / conference thingy so nobody is going to judge the car. GTR is still way over the top and not going to happen!

Even with the Supercharger in Columbus, you'd run out of juice. The top range is under ideal circumstances. Houston traffic and 75 MPH cruising isn't what Musk had in mind.

Kinja'd!!! Alex B > Flat Six

Tesla is too common. The C63 isn't current. The M5 is meh. Nissan GT-R isn't conferrable enough. Jag is becoming dated. So, for me it's between the 650i or S550. When I rented from hertz, they had the current generation S Class...
